Labeled dextran is a hydrophilic polysaccharide, most commonly used in microscopy studies to monitor cell division, track the movement of living cells, and report the hydrodynamic properties of the cytoplasmic matrix. The labeled dextran is usually introduced into the cells by microinjection.
